The SOS Children's Village Addis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia, was opened in 1981. It is the third SOS Children's Village in Ethiopia. It was built in a nice residential district, in the south western part of the city. It comprises 15 family-houses, a Village Director's house, an administrative building, a Community House with a laundry and a bakery, a Village shop, and a clinic, where the population of the surrounding area can also be treated. The SOS Kindergarten, which has 6 classrooms, is attended by more children from the vicinity than from the Children's Village, at the same time it is a training center for future kindergarten teachers. For the older youths a Girls' House and a Boy's House were established where they are assisted within the framework of a Youth Support Programme. In 1997, the SOS Baby Home which is located in Keranyo, a suburb of Addis Abeba, was transformed into a Day Care Center and a Medical Center.
In 1989, the SOS Vocational Training and Production Center Kality was set up in the suburbs of Addis Abeba. At the moment, young people can undergo various types of training: carpenter, automobile mechanic, engine fitter. In addition, a Social Housing Programme was started to help families in need.
