Country information

Antsirabe, an economically thriving city, south of Antananarivo, was chosen as construction site for Madagascar's youngest SOS Children's Village since rural exodus has caused many people to settle in the outskirts of Antsirabe. As a result, misery and poverty have increased tremendously in these settlements. On the other hand, as compared to other cities, it is precisely the economic development of that city which helps youths looking for jobs to establish themselves professionally. Last but not least, the choice of Antisirabe as construction site of the third SOS Children's Village was crucially influenced by the fact that the municipal authorities of Antsirabe had offered a site to SOS Children's Villages International.
The SOS Children's Village Antsirabe comprises 12 family houses - whose architectonic design was adapted to the local style - a Village Director's house, an administrative building (community house), staff accommodation and a multi purpose hall. In order to facilitate the integration of the SOS Children's Village into its surroundings and increase the social benefit for the neighbourhood, an SOS Kindergarten with a total capacity of 150 children and an SOS Medical Centre were attached to the SOS Children's Village.
