The second SOS Children's Village of Paraguay, Asunción, is located not far from Río Paraguay on a slightly sloping site on which the buildings are arranged to form a terrace. The SOS Children's Village of Asunción is divided into two areas by a row of old mango trees: on the left side are situated 17 family houses, the staff quarters, a Village Director's house, a Community House, a Village centre and a laundry. On the right side, the SOS Social Centre with an infirmary, an SOS School, an SOS Kindergarten and an SOS Preparatory School are located. These facilities are also attended by children from the surrounding area. Furthermore, SOS Day-Care Centres for the children from very poor neighbourhoods and a house for abandoned mothers are affiliated to the SOS Children's Village. An SOS Girls' Residence and an SOS Youth House for boys located near the city centre are part of the SOS Children's Village, too. A welding workshop as well as iron and woodworking workshops have been set up in the SOS Youth House. They are run as training workshops. Maize and cassava plantations were laid out on land belonging to the SOS Children's Village in order to cover the SOS Children's Village own requirements.
