The SOS Children's Village was constructed on a piece of land measuring 28.000 sq. metres in the city of Lauro de Freitas with 140.000 inhabitants and is located on the route leading from the International Airport to the capital of the Federal State Bahia, Salvador de Bahia. The opening-ceremony took place in January 1999.
The SOS Children's Village Bahia consists of 12 family houses, the Director's house and the house of the Vice-Director. The SOS Children's Village also has a community house, a workshop, a house for the SOS-aunts, a little shop as well as a crisis-handling Centre. The SOS Children's Village is located in the vicinity of the centre of the city and a public primary school is situated across the street. Other important public buildings like a hospital, the Town Hall, offices, other types of schools as well as medical centres, shops and a supermarket are situated next to the SOS Children's Village.
