The first Colombian SOS Children's Village which is, at the same time, Latin America's second largest SOS Children's Village, was opened in 1971 in the capital, Bogotá. It is situated not far from the airport on a site of about 2 hectares.

The SOS Children's Village comprises 22 family houses, a Community House, an administrative building, a small village store, a laundry, a carpenter's workshop and a tailor's shop. Children from the age of 10 onwards are taught handicrafts in the workshops for 2 hours a day enabling them to develop their creativity and making it easier for them to choose a profession later on.

Vegetable is cultivated providing the SOS Children's Village's own consumption and the bakery supplies the SOS Children's Village with bread.
