The SOS Children's Village Bujumbura was built in the capital of Burundi having the same name. Bujumbura is located in the western part of Burundi and borders lake Tanganyika. It has about 300.000 inhabitants and is the largest city in the country.
The SOS Children's Village consists of 10 family houses, a Village Director's house, an administrative building and a house for aunts and visitors. The SOS Kindergarten is also attended by children from the vicinity. An SOS Primary School and Secondary School with over 1000 registered pupils are also run by the SOS Children's Village. A small farm, as well as fruit- and vegetable gardens cover some of the Village's own requirements.
