The SOS Children's Village Bulawayo is situated about 4.5 km from the city centre of Bulawayo, close to the borders of Botswana. The official opening ceremony took place on 10 September 1996 in presence of the Secretary of State, Mr. Mpisa.
The Village comprises 15 Family Houses, a SOS Primary School, a SOS Kindergarten, staff-houses, administrative buildings, sports fields and large vegetable gardens, where each SOS Family can grow its own vegetables. The SOS Children's Village Bulawayo enjoys the advantages of the infrastructure of the city: local secondary schools, which are also attended by SOS Children, markets and two large hospitals, where the children can be treated, should the need arise. A SOS Youth Facility was opened in 2000, where the youths live during the time of their vocational training or education and prepare themselves for an independent life under the guidance of their youth leaders. In spring 2003 a SOS Social Centre was put into operation, offering support to HIV/AIDS affected families.
