Our Facilities

The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Bulgaria started in 1991 with the laying of the corner stone of the first Bulgarian SOS Children's Village on 26 October in Trjavna, a town situated in the central part of the country. On 23 October 1993, the SOS Children's Village Trjavna was officially inaugurated and the first SOS mothers could move to their new homes with their children.

Already on 24 October 1993, the corner stone of the second Bulgarian SOS Children's Village was laid in Dren, next to the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The first families moved into their houses in April 1995 and in May 1995, construction work for an SOS Social Centre was started on the SOS Children's Village's site. This SOS Social Centre is also open to the neighbourhood and comprises an SOS-Kindergarten, too. The construction work was finished in June 1997. A third SOS Children's Village is to be constructed in Dobrich at a distance of 30 kilometres from the Black Sea.
