The SOS Children's Village Byumba is located in the north of Rwanda, approximately 7 km outside the town of the same name and about 60 km from the capital Kigali. It is easy to get to Byumba taking the Federal Highway. The next international airport is situated in Kigali. Since the SOS Children's Village is located up in the mountains, the climate is pleasant and refreshing.

The SOS Children's Village Byumba consists of 15 family houses, an administrative building, a Community Centre, the Village Director's house, workshops, basketball and volleyball grounds. Since there are no child-care facilities nearby and as the village school building was destroyed during the civil war, an SOS Kindergarten and an SOS School (comprising 12 forms) were built. The SOS Children's Village is in every respect an important component of the area where it is located, especially with regard to medical care which is assured by the SOS Medical Centre.
