Our Facilities
The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Canada started in 1969 by founding the association Friends of SOS Children's Villages Canada, Inc. in Ottawa/Ontario. In 1980, the association bought a plot of land in a suburb of Margaretville in Annapolis County/Nova Scotia in order to build the first Canadian SOS Children's Village. In June 1983, the SOS Children's Village Margaretville was put in operation, the official inauguration ceremony taking place on 16 July 1983.
In 1994, another building site was bought in the State of British Columbia, the corner-stone of the second SOS was laid on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of SOS-Kinderdorf International on 23 June 1999. The construction of this SOS facility was begun in February 2000 and already in 2001, the very first children and SOS mothers moved to their new homes.
