Our Facilities

In the autumn of 1984, a five-person delegation from SOS-Kinderdorf International led by and Helmut Kutin visited China. At the Ministry of Civil Affairs, an agreement of co-operation was signed. This agreement stipulated the administrative and educational principles of SOS-Kinderdorf International as well as the patronage and protection by the above-mentioned ministry.

At the same time it was decided that for the time being two SOS Children's Villages would be built, one in Tianjin and one in Yantai. The Ministry of Civil Affairs agreed to providing a fully developed site for each of the two SOS Children's Villages free of charge. On 8 November 1984, the corner-stone for the SOS Children's Village Tianjin was laid. The corner-stone for the SOS Children's Village Yantai was laid on 11 November 1984. In May 1985, the association "SOS Children's Villages in China" was founded with the permission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In August of the same year, China was accepted as a full member of SOS-Kinderdorf International. On 25 May 1987, the SOS Children's Villages Tianjin and Yantai were officially inaugurated.
