Country information
The construction of the two Romanian SOS Children's Villages, one in Bucharest and the other one in Cisnadie/Transylvania near Sibiu, started in October 1991.

Already in February 1993, the first families could move into their new homes at the SOS Children's Village Cisnadie and in April of the following year the first SOS mothers and children moved into the SOS Children's Village Bucharest. The official opening of the SOS Children's Village Bucharest took place on October 22, 1993, that of the SOS Children's Village Cisnadie on October 24, 1993.

On the property of the SOS Children's Village Cisnadie, there is also a holiday-camp where the children from the SOS Children's Village Bucharest can stay during their summer holidays

The second SOS Children's Village Cisnadie consists of 12 family houses. The houses are built in the local rural style, using natural stone and wood. Six houses are grouped around a playground, and the other six around an old tree.
The SOS Children's Village is situated on high ground above the small town of Cisnadie, in a hilly landscape. The city of Sibiu is only 8 km from the SOS Children's Village. During the second phase of construction, a Community Centre, an SOS Medical Center, an SOS Kindergarten and a playground were erected on the SOS Children's Village site which measures 2.8 hectares.
