The SOS Children's Village Coconut Creek is located in the Federal State of Florida which is also called the Sunshine State. Florida's major cities are Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa and Orlando. The SOS Children's Village Coconut Creek is located northwest of the city of Fort Lauderdale, an important seaside resort. Apart from tourism, the production of electrical appliances and navigation systems are other outstanding resources of income. Fort Lauderdale is also known as America's Venice and disposes of a vast system of canals and waterways and has about 150,000 inhabitants. The SOS Children's Village Coconut Creek consists of eleven family houses, the Village Director's house, a house for the aunties, workshops, and a community centre with rooms for ceremonies and other social activities. The buildings are clustered on a palm-lined cul-de-sac in a suburban neighbourhood, the adjoining street leads to a nearby playground. At the moment, the SOS Children's Village is giving a loving home to a number of about 50 children and additionally, a programme for youth from the age of fourteen upwards is offered, supporting them in the difficult time of adolescence and accompanying them on their way towards an independent life. The adolescents are taught useful knowledge in matters of everyday life as well as psychological subjects.
