In Concepción about 500 kilometres south of the capital Santiago de Chile, there are four SOS Children's Villages: Concepción, Bulnes, Chaimávida and Coyanco. In 1975, the SOS Children's Village Coyanco was the last of the four SOS Children's Villages near Concepción to be put in operation. It is situated on a flat piece of land near a village called Quillón where two primary schools and a grammar school are located. Chillán, which is the nearest bigger city, is at a distance of about 40 kilometres and offers high schools and shopping centres, which are very much appreciated by the inhabitants of the SOS Children's Village. Affiliated to the four SOS Children's Villages in Concepción are SOS Youth Houses for girls and for young men, a large SOS Vocational Training College, workshops for carpentry, handicrafts and motor mechanics, and other training facilities. A total of 1000 children and young people are cared for in these four SOS Children's Villages.
