The sixth Peruvian SOS Children's Village Cuzco is situated in the city of the same name which was once the centre of the legendary Inca kingdom, Tahuantinsuyo, and is located high up in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of 3399 m. Today, the city has a population of about 750.000. The splendid temple districts of the Precolumbian area, such as Sacsayhuamán and Machu Picchu, are popular tourist attractions from which the population of Cuzco benefits economically. The city itself is worth seeing due to its well-preserved colonial architecture. The SOS Children's Village Cuzco is situated 2 km from the city centre, in the district of Santiago. It comprises 10 family houses, a Village Director's house, a multipurpose building, two sports fields and a Community Centre, which also houses the offices.
