The first children moved into the SOS Children's Village Da Nang in November 1993. The SOS Children's Village is located on the outskirts of the town of Da Nang. Da Nang is the capital of Quang Nam province and is situated mid-way between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. During the war, the town suffered tremendous destruction. When they saw the success of the other SOS Children's Villages, the provincial authorities asked for the establishment of such a village in Da Nang and donated a piece of land for this purpose. The SOS Children's Village is located on a sandy hill 6 km from the city centre, on the road to Hoi An. The infrastructure is good with schools and markets close by.
The 16 family houses were built in the traditional local style. There is an SOS Kindergarten and an SOS School, which offers classes up to secondary level. Both facilities are open to children from the neighbourhood as well. The SOS Social Centre also caters to the needs of the local population. Children from working mothers are looked after during the day. Youths from the SOS Children's Village usually move to the SOS Youth Facility.
