The foundation stone of the SOS Children's Village Daegu was laid in 1963. Construction was finished in 1965. Daegu is located in the south-east of the country. The SOS Children's Village is situated on the outskirts of the city, not far from the airport. At first, the location of the SOS Children's Village was a little out of the way, but over the years, more and more people have settled in the surrounding area, and now the SOS Children's Village is well integrated into its neighbourhood.
The SOS Children's Village Daegu consists of 15 family houses, a community house and an SOS Kindergarten, which is also open to children from the neighbourhood. All the children attend the local elementary schools and the secondary schools in the city. There is also an SOS Youth House for boys and one for girls. These facilities accommodate the young people from the SOS Children's Village who are doing vocational training or continuing their schooling. The move to the SOS Youth House is the first step towards independence for most SOS children. In 1998, an SOS Social Centre was built in Daegu. The existing SOS Kindergarten moved into this building, which also houses an SOS Centre of Therapeutic Pedagogy.
