The construction of the third SOS Children's Village in Panama started in February 1997. Two years later, the first children were able to move into their new home. The SOS Children's Village is located in the north-west of the city of David, near a residential area along the road to the airport. David is the capital of the western province of Chiriquí; from there the border between Panama and Costa Rica can be reached within a two hours' drive. David is the biggest and most important agricultural and cattle breeding place in the country. Thanks to its many shops, banks, schools, hotels and government offices, the city ranks in a top position concerning its financial and cultural importance in the country.
The SOS Children's Village consists of the family houses, the Village Director's house, an aunts' house, a guest house, a workshop, a community house with a multi-purpose hall and an administrative building. The adjoining SOS Kindergarten consists of three rooms and includes an SOS Day Care Centre for children aged 2 to 4 from the neighbourhood. The SOS Children's Village is not far away from the centre of the city. Thanks to its advantageous location, it benefits from a good infrastructure: in the neighbourhood there are a great number of primary schools, secondary schools and hospitals, as well as a church.
