...that there are 54 SOS Medical Centres in operation (of which four are presently under construction), and about 308,700 people a year make use of their services? Of these 54 centres, 28 are in Africa, 11 in Latin America, one in Europe and 14 in Asia (as of June 2002).
...that the Mother and Child Clinic in Mogadishu, Somalia, was the only operational facility of its kind in the city for a long time? That on average 21 babies a day are born in this clinic, 250 children a day are treated as out-patients, 60 major operation a month are performed here and every day an average of 120 women a day come for pregnancy advice and in order to find out more about how to look after their babies?
...that part of the SOS Medical Centre in Lilongwe, Malawi is the mobile clinic, the so-called "SOS Mobile Clinic at the Lake Region"? The doctor in charge travels out to the distant regions every two weeks where he treats around 200 people per trip, of which 70% are HIV patients. For example in Byumba (Rwanda) there is an average of 15 000 patients a year, in the Mother and Child Clinic in Kara (Togo) around 20 000 a year and in the SOS Medical Centre in Anangpur (India) up to 40 000 patients?
