Our Facilities
Due to the great number of abandoned and orphaned children in Ghana, SOS Children's Village International decided in 1969 to construct a SOS Children's Village. Ghana's first SOS Children's Village was built in Tema, an industrial port-city near the capital of Accra. It's construction was finished in 1974 and the first children moved in the very same year.
In 1975, a SOS Kindergarten was added to the SOS Children's Village Tema. Moreover, in the course of time, a SOS Primary School, a SOS Training & Production Centre for Girls (with the sections: dressmaking, secretarial skills, catering departments) and a small SOS clinic - which provides medical care and first aid to SOS children, co-workers and people from the surroundings - were built. In 1990, the International College (HGIC) was established next to the HGS. The HGIC is a well known superior academic institution of secondary education for talented students from all over Africa providing sound education and leading to an International Certificate of Secondary Education and the International Baccalaureate which gives admission to universities all over the world.
