Our Facilities

The liberalisation in Guinean politics and the special emphasis laid on welfare of children in need in 1984-85 enabled SOS Children's Villages International to take action in Guinea. In 1985, a co-operation agreement between the government of Guinea and SOS Children's Villages International was signed. This agreement was to become the basis of the SOS work in that country.

In 1987, construction of the first SOS Children's Village in Guinea was started. Two years later the construction works were finished and the first orphans moved into their new homes. In 1990, the SOS-Children's Village Conakry was officially opened.

In 1993, the Guinean Social Ministry invited SOS Children's Village International to build a second SOS Children's Village in Guinea and donated a plot of land for this purpose in the southeast of the country, near the town of N'Zérékoré. Due to a change of government, construction of the second SOS Children's Village could not be started before December 1999. The new SOS facility was finally completed in December 2000.
