The second SOS Children's Village Hampolol on the peninsula Yucatán has been set up in the little village Hampolol, which is situated at a distance of 15 km from the town of Campeche. Campeche is the capital of one of the poorest an climatically disadvantaged provinces in the country. From the SOS Children's Village the centre of Hampolol can be reached after a 5-minutes' walk, the coast after 15 minutes. On the large building site (20 000sq. m.) the inhabitants of the Children's Village grow vegetables and fruit, breed chickens and keep bees. The farm is not only a source of income, providing the SOS Children's Village with many products of daily need, but also a place to learn and to work.
The Children's Village Hampolol consists of the family houses, the standard community facilities of an SOS Children's Village and an SOS vocational centre which includes workshops for future joiners, tailors and beauticians. In addition to that, there is also an SOS Social Centre and an SOS Youth Facility, where the young people can prepare for independent life.
