The SOS Children's Village of Hohenau is located in the middle of a virgin forest area, which is gradually being cleared by settlers. The next bigger city is Encarnación, 36 km from the SOS Children's Village. The capital Asunción is situated at a distance of about 400 km.
The SOS Children's Village consists of 19 family houses, several additional buildings, two SOS Youth Houses, a laundry and an SOS Kindergarten which is also attended by children from the neighbourhood. The SOS Children's Village runs a small farm with cattle breeding and dairy production in order to cover its own needs. Furthermore, a carpenter's workshop is used simultaneously as a teaching workshop for the youths.
Next to the SOS Children's Village there is an SOS Medical Centre where emphasis is laid on preventive health care for mother and child. Since it is the only clinic in the entire area, numerous other medical problems are taken care of here. Women of the poorest backgrounds can give birth in the clinic. An SOS Girls' Residence was set up by the SOS Children's Village in the city of Encarnacion.
