Irbid is the Jordanian gate to Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. It has a population of about 80.000, mainly middle class and lower class people. There are two universities, several community colleges and five hospitals in town. The SOS Children's Village is located in an eastern suburb of the town. It can be easily reached by car. It consists of twelve family houses (for an approx. Total of 110 children), an administrative building, a Village Director's house, two houses for the personnel, a service block, an aunts house and the SOS Activity Club. The children of the SOS Children's Village Irbid are Muslims.
