The SOS Children's Village is located on the outskirts of the town of Bauska, in a suburb called Islice, 65 km south of the country's capital, Riga. The area around the village is of rather rural character. This part of the town is inhabited by middle-class families who live in one-family homes. The financial situation of the municipality is rather bad: There are schools and kindergartens, but there is no money for their maintenance and further development. In 1998 an agreement between SOS Latvia and the local authorities was signed, in which SOS Latvia assured financial support for the primary school of Islice for four years. With the help of SOS Latvia the primary school Islice was meanwhile able to buy twelve modern PCs, which is absolutely unique for the whole country.

The SOS Children's Village Islice consists of twelve family houses, the director's house, two administrative buildings including a garage and a store-room, two personnel houses, an aunts' house and a laundry. In addition, there is an SOS kindergarten and a doctor's room.
