SOS Children's Village International was contacted for the first time in 1975 by Mr Kurtz, later President of the Israeli SOS Children's Village Association, during his visit to the SOS Children's Villages Imst and Hinterbrühl with regard to the construction of an SOS Children's Village in Israel. Two years later, in 1977, the "Israeli Society for SOS Children's Villages" was founded. In the very same year went to Arad, located in the south of Israel, to find a suitable site for the construction of a SOS Children's Village.

In June 1979, the cornerstone of the SOS Children's Village Arad was laid. In October 1981, the first 17 children were able to move into their new homes. In 1988, a SOS Youth House was added to the SOS Children's Village.

In 1989, the idea was born to build a second SOS Children's Village in Israel. Before taking the decision where to build the new SOS project a great many local councils were asked in order to find the most suitable site. Finally, the appropriate site was found in Migdal-Haemek, in the north of Israel, next to Nazareth. The first construction phase was started in November 1995. Shortly after termination of construction of this SOS Children's Village in April 1997 the first children moved in.
