The inauguration of the forth SOS Children's Village in Guatemala, SOS Children's Village Jocotán, took place in 1982. The SOS Children's Village Jocotán is located at a distance of about 200 km east of Guatemala City near the Honduran border. This part of the country is very poor and mountainous. The area where the SOS Children's Village Jocotán has been set up is at a distance of 1 km from the Village of Jocotán. A little river makes it fertile and green even during the dry season. The nearest bigger town of Chiquimula is located at a distance of 26 km from the SOS Children's Village Jocotán.
The SOS Children's Village Jocotán consists of the family houses, the Village Director's house, offices and residences for the staff, a multi-purpose hall, a library and a sewing room. The SOS Children's Village Jocotán runs its own SOS Kindergarten, which is also attended by the children from the neighbourhood. An SOS Youth Facility, which is located in the town of Chiquimula, also belongs to the SOS Children's Village Jocotán.
