This SOS Children's Village is located in the centre of the city and consists of 12 family houses, a Community House and additional buildings, in which workshops, a library, a sewing room, a laundry, as well as a paediatrician's and a dentist's surgery are installed. These surgeries are also attended by the population of the vicinity. The children of the SOS Children's Village attend the local schools in the city. There are also other facilities established by the SOS Children's Village, namely an SOS Kindergarten and since 1985, also an SOS Day Care Centre for children on the outskirts of the city. Children from poor and single mother families are cared for here during the day. Thus the parents have the opportunity of going to work and earning their living. An SOS Youth Home for the grown-up boys and two SOS Youth Homes for the girls are also part of the SOS Children's Village Jordán. The teenagers live there during the time of their vocational training. There is also a knitting workshop, a ceramics workshop, a locksmith's, a bakery, and even a farm with 9 hectares. These workshops serve for vocational training of the young people and, at the same time, are used as production centres. The Training and Production Centre Tiquipaya is located about 5 kilometres from the city centre. A large SOS Social Centre has also been erected on this piece of land. The SOS Social Centre was inaugurated in 1988. This SOS project in Cochabamba is a very valuable facility in the area of health welfare, mainly for families on a very low income. The health service comprises the following: paediatrician, dentist, first aid, gynaecologist and counselling for mothers.
