The second SOS Children's Village of the country was completed in 1979. It is situated at a distance of 138 km north-east from Managua in the western part of the town of Juigalpa, the capital of the province of Chontales. From the SOS Children's Village, which has been set up on a hilly site at a distance of 2 km from the city centre, the children, mothers and co-workers enjoy a splendid view of the city of Juigalpa.
In addition to the family houses and the standard community facilities of an SOS Children's Village, the SOS Children's Village Juigalpa includes an SOS Social Centre with an SOS Kindergarten, two SOS Vocational Training Centres, an SOS Medical Care Centre and an SOS Day Care Centre. Thanks to the day care centre many single mothers of the vicinity, who do not have anybody to look after their children, are given a chance to make a living. The SOS Children's Village is provided with milk, corn and beans by its own farm, which is located next to the SOS Village.
