The SOS Children's Village Kaolack is located in the hottest and most densely populated part of the country, usually referred to as "Peanut Province". Kaolack has quite more than 200.000 inhabitants. The SOS Children's Village comprises 10 family houses, a Village Director's house and various additional buildings. An SOS Primary School was erected on the edge of the village. This school, as well as the four-form SOS Kindergarten, is attended not only by SOS children but also by children from the vicinity. In 1984, the SOS Medical Centre (SOS Mother Child Clinic) was opened in Kaolack. A maternity ward was added to it in 1990.
