Togo's second SOS Children's Village was constructed in the north of the country, at Lama-Kara. The SOS Children's Village of Kara comprises 10 family houses, an administrative building, a SOS Youth House as well as a SOS Kindergarten and a SOS Elementary School. The latter are also attended by the children from the vicinity. The SOS Medical Centre is always busy. A great many of patients receive treatment and get advice day by day. Undernourished and sick babies can be treated as in- or out patients. In addition, courses about infant care and nutrition are regularly organized.
In 1984, the SOS Vocational Training Centre (a farm) was built on the premises of the SOS Children's Village. This farm provides training places for SOS youths and protected working places for disabled SOS youths. During the last years this SOS project has developed into a model facility for agricultural training from which many farmers from the surrounding community also take advice.
