The seventh SOS Children's Village in Nepal started its operation in November 1997. It is situated near the small towns of Panauti and Banepa, about 30 km east of the capital Kathmandu. The district is called Kavre.
The SOS Children's Village Kavre consists of 14 family houses, which can accommodate up to 140 children, the Village Director's house and the necessary administrative buildings. There is also an SOS Secondary School and an SOS Kindergarten. These two facilities are open to children from the neighbourhood as well. The town of Banepa is at a distance of about 1.5 km and offers various facilities, such as schools, colleges, a hospital, a shopping area, banks and hotels. The SOS Children's Village Kavre draws its water from its own natural spring. In order to help working mothers, SOS has established a day-care centre, where they can leave their children while they are at work. The children receive a meal there every day. In 2002, an SOS Vocational Training Centre was established. There future SOS mothers and aunts as well as other staff will receive their first training.
