Country information
The second Hungarian SOS Children's Village was built in Kecskemét, a small town approx. 80 km to the south-east of Budapest. The SOS Children's Village of Kecskemét is located in the district of Petöfi-Varos, approx. 10 km from the city centre. It consists of 12 family houses (one of them is used as a nursery school, which can also be attended by the children from the neighbourhood), a community centre with a multipurpose hall, an administrative block with offices and guest rooms, a Village Director's house, a house for the SOS aunts and a workshop. The 'Vasarhelyi Pal' Primary School is within easy distance to the SOS Children's Village and has undergone expansion with the assistance of SOS-Kinderdorf International. The SOS Children's Village Kecskemét is a great success architecturally speaking: the houses are furnished in a very practical and attractive manner, so that the children can feel really at home here.
