Our Facilities

The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Kosovo started in 1999 with an SOS Emergency Relief Programme for refugees who had been driven from their homes taking shelter in Albania. In autumn of 1999, most of them went back to their destroyed region of origin. Considering the difficult social situation in Kosovo, SOS-Kinderdorf International decided to take action in this region by constructing an SOS Social Centre in the province's capital Pristina.

In March 2000, a building site was bought in the district of Velania and on 11 June 2001, the corner stone of the SOS Social Centre Pristina was laid. In order not to waste time until the construction will be completed and to start helping right from the beginning, two temporary SOS Transit Homes were opened in autumn 2000 and 2001 where 24 babies have found a temporary home.
