The country's first SOS Children's Village was built at Lembang, at an altitude of 1,300 m, about 15 km from the city of Bandung. The SOS Children's Village of Lembang consists of 13 family houses, a community house, a Village Director's house, a house for the aunts, a library and an SOS Kindergarten, which is also attended by children from the neighbourhood. Muslim, Catholic and Protestant SOS families are living together. In 1993/94, a home for retired SOS mothers was built. It also houses the SOS Medical Centre, where the SOS children as well as people from the neighbourhood can be treated.
The SOS Children's Village Lembang also includes an SOS Primary School, which is officially recognized and is attended by the SOS children and by children from the neighbouring residential area. In 1989, a dental clinic was set up, which is of great benefit to the local population. The SOS Social Centre for Mother and Child, where mothers can seek advice on nutrition and where their children's growth is monitored and immunization programmes are carried out, is also very popular. SOS Youth Facilities for young people who are still doing their education or vocational training have been established in the city of Bandung. At the two SOS Vocational Training Centres, the following things are taught: carpentry, metal work and computer training.
