The Village is situated among semi-rural settlements, around 4 km south of the capital city, Lilongwe. The area is only sparsely vegetated, with new shrubs thriving on the comparatively flat land. The red sand, which is characteristic for this region, beautifully harmonises with the colours of the vegetation.

The SOS Children's Village Lilongwe comprises 12 Family Houses, a SOS Kindergarten, a SOS Medical Centre and a SOS Primary and Secondary School. The primary school has volleyball, netball, basketball and football pitches, which the children can also use for their spare time activities. The Secondary School also provides vocational training. The SOS Medical Centre was extended twice and now also operates as a supplier of know-how and medical drugs for smaller medical centres in rural areas. This new project is highly appreciated by the members of the vicinity. Unfortunately the SOS Children's Village cannot be reached by public means of transport yet, and therefore social activities outside the Village are at a minimum.
