The SOS Children's Village Lippe was officially opened in December 1996. It is located near the city of Paderborn at the Teutoburg forest; about fifty children are living in the eleven family houses.
Thirty-five children between three and fifteen years attend the kindergarten and the day nursery, which were erected on the same site as the SOS Children's Village Lippe. In addition to these facilities, an educational community for long-term care of children and youth in a neighbouring city belongs to the SOS Children's Village Lippe. The children and youth can stay there until they are able to live independently and they receive educational therapy. There are also three educational communities for children and youth in need of short or medium term care, who need external accommodation because of grave problems in their natural family. On the average, the children stay there for about one year and are re-integrated into their families afterwards.
