Look inside
Great joy at SOS Children's Village Isolo, located about 15 km outside of Lagos, the capital city of Nigeria. A new child has arrived. It is a new-born baby, only two days old perhaps, found by a bus driver. Immediately after his arrival mothers and children from the SOS Children's Village gather round, bringing clothes and preparing a bed for the little foundling. And he is given a name - Chizoba, which means "Saved by God".
SOS Children's Village Isolo was the first SOS Children's Village to open its doors in Nigeria, and the first SOS families moved into their new homes in 1973. At that time the village included five family houses and one house for the village director.

Because of increasing demand, the SOS Children's Village was steadily extended between 1974 and 1980. Five more family houses were added, as well as an SOS Kindergarten with three classrooms and an SOS Primary School with six, offering education to children from both the children's village and the local neighbourhood.

Today, the village comprises ten family houses and several additional buildings. Every house has a large veranda, where the children can play during the rainy season. Otherwise they run around in the playground. This beautiful place has also become the new home of little Chizoba.

When Chizoba is old enough, he will have the opportunity to attend the SOS Vocational Training Centre, which was started in 1991 on the premises of the SOS Children's Village. In 1995 it was extended and moved into a rented house nearby. Because of the tremendous popularity of the centre, the rooms soon became too small and in 1999 the construction of a new building followed.

Today the SOS Vocational Training Centre has a capacity of 190 students and offers training in computer skills, leatherwork, sewing and dressmaking, arts, crafts and home economics. The training at the centre leads to an officially recognized certificate.
