The SOS Children's Village of Louga is located about 200 km northeast of Dakar. The climate is particularly hot and dry in this part of the country. Only a few plants grow in this arid land. In addition, the whole region is afflicted by the unstoppable growth of the Sahara. The SOS Children's Village Louga was built in the east of the town and can be easily reached by car. It comprises a total of 10 family houses, a Village Director's house, staff quarters, a SOS Kindergarten, a SOS Primary School, a sick ward, sports facilities, a shop and a guest house. In the year 2000, a SOS Mother and Staff Training Centre was established in the former SOS Youth House.
