The SOS Children's Village Lubango is situated around 3 km outside the city of Lubango and comprises an area of around 19 sq. km. The region is quite hilly with many small rocky outcrops. The area of the Village is very fertile with abundant water and therefore mainly used for agricultural purposes. Overall the Village is beautifully located, providing great opportunities for the children and their personal development.
Today the SOS Children's Village comprises 12 Family Houses and a whole range of other SOS Facilities, like the SOS Kindergarten, the SOS School, a farm and a medical and social centre.
Besides all these facilities there are several other relief programmes, designed to help the population of the neighbourhood. Because of the tense political situation in the country, most of the state run schools and hospitals have had to close and only very few of them have re-opened. The SOS Facilities and relief programmes are therefore highly appreciated by the local population. The SOS Children's Village provides for example free meals for up to 100 children from the neighbourhood per day.
