The SOS Children's Village of Lusaka is located about 6.5 kilometres outside the city centre along the "Great North Road" on 16 ha of land donated by the Zambian government. The surrounding community is densely populated and very poor.
The SOS Children's Village is surrounded by eucalyptus trees, lending a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The architectural design is simple but appealing to the eye. All the buildings are built in red burnt clay bricks with green roof tiles.
There are 15 family houses built in clusters of 3, a house for the Village director and the aunts, an administrative building, a guesthouse and a multipurpose hall. There is also a kindergarten with two big rooms to which children of the community will also have access and which will provide them with two meals per day. The SOS Children's Village will be home to about 150 children and give room to 50 children at the kindergarten.
