Our Facilities

In 1963, the association "Fondation Letzebuerger Kannerduerf" with its seat in Luxembourg was founded and two years later, a suitable plot of land at the city of Mersch was obtained. In 1967, the ground breaking was held; about one year later the construction of the first three family houses was completed and the first families moved in. In 1970 the SOS Children's Village Mersch was officially opened.

In 1974, a second association called "SOS Interfonds A.S.B.L." was established, concentrating solely on fund raising for the international work of SOS-Kinderdorf International. In 1982 a sports ground was erected on the site of the SOS Children's Village Mersch. When the first children reached adolescence, apartments in the cities of Bonneweg and Hamm were obtained and converted into youth facilities. Vocational preparatory classes for SOS youth are offered and in 1993 the first course in home economics for girls was held. In 1999, "SOS Interfonds A.S.B.L." celebrated its 25th anniversary.
