Our Facilities

In order to provide help for children who were particularly afflicted by the difficult living conditions in Madagascar, the Madagascan SOS Children's Village Association was founded in 1986. This association succeeded in obtaining a site located near Antananarivo where the first SOS Children's Village in Madagascar was built in 1988. Five years later, 2 SOS Youth Houses were built in Avarabohitra in order to create suitable accommodation for elder SOS youths. In 1995, an office was set up in Antananarivo in order to facilitate the administrative work and coordination of SOS Children's village activities in Madagascar. In the same year a SOS Farming Centre was set up next to the SOS Children's Village Vontovorona (Antananarivo) with training facilities for 20 SOS Youths.

In 1999, dairy farming, rice cultivation and cattle breeding were added to the already existing subjects: vegetable production, poultry farming, gardening, and sericulture. In 1995, a field study was carried out which revealed the necessity of the construction of a second SOS Children's Village in Madagascar. The construction of the SOS Children's Village Mangarano was finished in one year. It is located in Toamasina (Tamatave) the second largest city in Madagascar. In 1998, a SOS Day Care Centre was opened in Anosibé, a suburb of Antananarivo. About 60 children of working mothers are taken care of during the day.
