The SOS Children's Village Mai Dich is situated on the outskirts of the capital, Hanoi. It consists of 16 family houses. The houses were built in the local style, and their interior was kept simple, in line with the local living conditions. An administrative block, the Village Director's house, a community centre, workshops and accommodations for the employees were added a little later.
The SOS School, which has a capacity of up to 500 students, was opened in September 1994. It is a secondary school, which is open to children from the neighbourhood. The SOS Social Centre caters to the needs of the local population as well. There is an SOS Kindergarten for the small children from the SOS Children's Village and for children from local families. Older youths from the SOS Children's Village usually move to the SOS Youth House, where they can prepare for their independent lives while they are still at school or while they do their vocational training. At Mai Dich, there is also an SOS Training Centre for SOS co-workers and future SOS mothers.
