Country information
Mar del Plata, an elegant seaside resort, is located approximately 400 kilometres south of Buenos Aires, on the Atlantic Coast. Since the SOS Children's Village Mar del Plata which was erected in 1980, was situated too far from the city of Mar del Plata, SOS-Kinderdorf International decided to close it down and build a new SOS Children's Village Mar del Plata on a site in a better location. In 1994, a two hectares site was acquired in a middle class residential area within the city limits of Mar del Plata.

The new SOS Children's Village was opened in 1997 and consists of 10 family houses, the house of the Village Director, a guest house, a playground, an SOS Kindergarten and a sports field. An SOS Youth House for the male youngsters was erected in Mar del Plata where they can live during their vocational training. Close to the SOS Children's Village, there are medical centres, shopping facilities and schools. The other parts of the city can be easily reached by public transport.
