The SOS Children's Village Maseru is situated on the slopes of a small hill amongst the semi-urban settlement of Lithabaneng, with a good view of the surrounding region. There is plenty of space in the Village, where the children can play and run around. The neighbourhood of the SOS Village is predominately composed of dwellings made of concrete blocks or mud with tin roofs, and many are in a very poor state.
The SOS Children's Village, which is the only one in Lesotho, comprises 10 Family Houses, a SOS Kindergarten, a SOS Primary School, a small clinic, and the SOS Social Centre as well as several ancillary facilities (e.g. village director's house, aunts' house, multi-purpose hall, etc.) and a workshop, a vegetable garden and sports grounds for the children. Hospitals and schools in this area are extremely overcrowded, and therefore most SOS Facilities (school, kindergarten) are open to the population of the neighbourhood. As their children can also enjoy the friendly and open atmosphere of the SOS Kindergarten and their injuries and diseases are also treated in the clinic, the people are very enthusiastic about the commitment of SOS in this region, and it will hopefully improve the living conditions of many people.
