The work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in Czech Republic started as early as in 1969 with the construction of the first Czech SOS Children's Village in Doubí, a suburb of the known thermal spa Karlový Váry. The solemn inauguration of the SOS Children's Village Doubí took place in June 1970. In October 1970, the corner stone of the second SOS Children's Village in Czech Republic, in the Moravian town of Chvalcov was laid, the construction work itself started in January 1971 and already in December 1973, the SOS Children's Village Chvalcov was opened. From January 1st, 1974 the SOS Children's Villages were put under public control and the work of SOS-Kinderdorf International in this county could not restart before the political changes of December 1989. In 1990, SOS-Kinderdorf International started to renovate the family houses step by step and in 1992, the first SOS Youth House was opened in Karlový Váry where the young people from the SOS Children's Village live during their vocational and higher educational training. An additional SOS Youth Facility was opened in Dalovice in 2000. The construction of the third Czech SOS Children's Village in Medlanky was completed in June 2003.

Czech's third SOS Children's Village is situated in Medlanky, close to the city of Brno in Southern Moravia. Brno is the second largest town in Czech Republic, about 200 km south of Praha. It is the cultural, political and historical centre of Moravia. The SOS Children's Village Medlanky is located at about 20 minutes driving distance from the city centre in a middle class area.
The SOS Children's Village Medlanky comprises 10 family houses, a multipurpose building, a house for the village father and various ancillary buildings. Approx. 70 children can be accommodated and will find a new home at the SOS Children's Village Medlanky.
