As early as in the year 1959, a SOS Children's Village was opened at Moosburg, in Carinthia. The village of Moosburg is situated north of the Wörthersee lake and 14 kms from the provincial capital of Klagenfurt.
The SOS Children's Village of Moosburg consists of 13 family houses and a Community Centre, which houses teaching workshops and rooms for leisure activities. The SOS kindergarten can also be attended by the children from the neighbourhood. The Hermann-Gmeiner Social Centre offers counselling as well as various therapies to SOS Children and children from the vicinity. The young people live at the SOS Youth Facility and the SOS Girls' Residence in Klagenfurt. An SOS Home for Retired Mothers is also situated on the premises of the SOS Children's Village. Here, the retired SOS Children's Village mothers can enjoy their retirement and stay in touch with their families.
