Since the SOS Children's Village Tibetan Homes could not cope with the large number of refugee children from Tibet, a second SOS Children's Village was established right next to it. The SOS Children's Village Mussoorie was inaugurated in 1982 and consists of 11 family houses, a community house with a multi-purpose hall and the necessary administrative buildings.
There is also an SOS Youth House, where the older children usually stay in order to prepare for their independent lives. The Tibetan Homes Foundation runs a nearby hospital, a kindergarten, a school and a large vocational training centre for handicrafts. All these facilities are not only for the benefit of the SOS children but also for the people from the Tibetan settlements. In addition to conventional classes, the school offers a special class for developmentally challenged children, who are looked after by two teachers and a nurse. Tibetan youngsters who did not get any education at home and are now too old to attend a conventional school are offered training courses for young adults.
