The foundation stone of the SOS Children's Village Nha Trang was laid in January 1997. The first children moved in in September 1999. The torrential rains in November of that year delayed the termination of construction a little. The site of the SOS School had to be protected against flooding, for example. However, on 28 December 1999 the official inauguration finally took place. The SOS Children's Village Nha Trang is located in the centre of Nha Trang City, the provincial capital of Khanh Hoa province in the south of the country. Nha Trang City is a coastal town, which is visited by many tourists. The main source of income for the population of the province is agriculture, with tourism becoming more and more important.
The SOS Children's Village Nha Trang consists of 14 family homes, an SOS Social Centre and an SOS School. The SOS Social Centre includes a day-care centre where about two hundred children from the neighbourhood can be looked after. The SOS School can be attended by about one thousand children from the SOS Children's Village and its surroundings.
